5 Timeline Project -Adding a background image and picture to the Google spreadsheet-Google Classroom

Timeline JS (timeline.knightlab.com) is an effective way of using Google Sheets to create an interactive timeline. In these videos you will use Google Classroom to distribute a project to students.

This project could be related and changed for anything, however, this project focuses on students in Year 5 creating an interactive timeline that shows the work they have produced over the year. This is anything from art to work written in exercise books.

Step 5a - Insert an image background
- The next step is adding a background image or colour to your interactive timeline.
- Open a new tab in Google Chrome
- Go to Images
- Search for an image relevant to your piece of work. For example if it is the Mayans, find a image of one of the Mayan pyramids.
- Click Tools
- From the Usage Rights menu choose Labelled for non commercial reuse and modification (this ensure you are choosing legal images for your presentation, as this will be published to the internet so must have legal images.)
- Find an image and then copy the link
- Go back to your spreadsheet and in column R and the row of your entry, paste in the image URL.
- Now go back to your interactive timeline refresh the page and you will see the image in the background.

Step 5b - Insert a colour background
- In this step you will add an colour code to give your background a colour.
- Open the website in Google Classroom or click this link - http://www.paletton.com
- Choose a colour and then copy the hex number code of that colour
- Go back to the timeline project spreadsheet
- Go to column R and then the row you wish to add the colour
- Type a # and then paste the hex number in the cell
- Now go back to your interactive timeline refresh the page and you will see the colour in the background.
